Melbourne Stars

Melbourne was bundled out of the finals last season after the Scorchers bowling lineup dominated. This season, they’ve added top-runscorer from BBL06 in Ben Dunk and they’ll be expecting another finals spot.

Key Batsman – Ben Dunk

Ben Dunk led the Big Bash in runs last season and he’s now moved to the Stars in BBL07. He comes at a high price of $105K but if he can start well again this season, he’s well worth the price.

Key Bowler – Scott Boland

Boland led the Stars with 14 wickets last season and he’ll be the key again. He ’s also well priced at 70k and will provide a couple of wickets per game.

Young Star – Sebastian Gotch

With Dave Hussey retiring, I’m expecting Seb Gotch to get more playing time in BBL07. He’s just 35k and did play well in just 3 matches last season with 79 runs.

International Players – KP/Luke Wright

Pieterson is back for another season at the Stars. Last year, he scored 268 runs in 8 innings and I’ll look forward to watching him bat in the top order.

Luke Wright has been a consistent performer for the Stars and he had another good season last year. In 9 innings, he scored 261 runs. His combination with Ben Dunk will be great to watch and should keep the Stars in finals contention.

Player to watch – Glenn Maxwell

The big show doesn’t come cheap at 93K but he’s primed for a great season. His batting form is hard to back against as he has been smashing it in first-class cricket. He’s no real chance of making the test team, so he’s a safe pickup during the early stages. However, he’ll likely miss matches during the ODI series against England in January.

Fantasy Bargain – Marcus Stoinis

Having played for Australia recently, I can see a big season for Stoinis. He didn’t have much success last season, but as he showed in the ODI side, Stoinis has huge potential for large scores. He can also chip with a few wickets here and there. At $55k, he’s a valuable all-rounder option.
